Don’t Fall Apart on Me ….. USA
You know, the streets are filled with vipers – Who’ve lost all ray of hope – You know, it’s not even safe no more In the palace of the Pope – Don’t fall apart on me tonight I just don’t think that I could handle it – Don’t fall apart on me tonight – Yesterday’s just a memory – Tomorrow is never what it’s supposed to be – And I need you, yeah.
What has been happening here since January 2025? How is it possible that one person can destroy so much in so little time?
The Senate & the House passed the so-called “beautiful bill.” All Republicans except three were in favor. This bill cuts taxes for the very rich and for corporations. To offset that giveaway, they will slash Medicaid and food security programs for low-income Americans.
What bothers me, on top of all that, is bringing in Christianity. Those Republican senators are bringing God into play.
I grew up Catholic, and in most countries, religion and government are separated. In church, you don’t hear political messages, but reminders of how you should live. What they should do is support the many not-so-fortunate people. A dangerous misconception The Republicans carry is that people with low income are lazy and taking advantage of the system.
The problem we have is the man on top. He lives in a fantasy where everybody is a bad person, every immigrant is a rapist and criminal. Cities are filled with crime, and if you’re lucky, you don’t get shot. One word haunts his mind: Retribution. Anyone who opposes him must be prosecuted.
This “beautiful bill” strips $6.8 billion from education, from Kindergarten through high school. Isn’t that the kind of investment we should be making—in the future of our children? How can Republicans support this? How can they laugh about a detention center in Florida nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz”?
Yes, corruption exists in governments around the world, but what’s happening here, in plain view, is suffocating.
Do they really believe every person in need is lazy or abusing the system?
In Switzerland, I occasionally worked in a soup kitchen. I saw dignity. I saw effort. I saw people trying to survive.
At the foundation of the Maslow’s pyramid are breathing, food, water, shelter, clothing, and sleep. If we, as a society, ensured every person had these basics, I am convinced crime would decrease.
The USA was once a role model. A country known for giving aid, lifting others up. Now we watch those funds being stripped and handed to the richest 1% in the form of another tax break.
I am worried.
Please, USA—don’t fall apart on me.
(“Don’t Fall Apart on Me Tonight” is a Bob Dylan song from 1983. I replaced the woman in the song with the USA.)
PS. After reading my blog, a great friend of mine sent me this link about Stephen Ujiaki’s documentary “BAD FAITH”. Ken Burns provided a supportive quote on the film.
